The North American Arabidopsis Steering Committee (NAASC) is a non-profit organization that is committed to protecting member privacy. This Statement of Privacy applies to the Arabidopsis Community (AC) site run by NAASC, and to information collected in conjunction with your membership request. By using the AC site, or requesting membership, you consent to the data practices described herein. We have adapted the statement from that of the North American Plant Phenotyping Network (NAPPN).

NAASC and the affiliated services (see below for more information) collects personally identifiable information, such as your name, email address, name, and home or work address for communication purposes. NAASC and the affiliated services (see below for more information) also automatically collects information about your computer hardware and software. This information can include: your IP address, browser type, domain names, access times and referring website addresses. This information is used for operational and site maintenance purposes, and to provide general statistics regarding site usage. NAASC also collects anonymous demographic information, which is not unique to you, such as your country, ZIP code, age, gender, preferences, interests and favorites.

Please keep in mind that if you directly disclose personally identifiable information or personally sensitive data through NAASC or AC public message boards, this information may be collected and used by others. Note: NAASC does not read any of your private online communications.

NAASC recommends that you review the privacy statements of any websites you choose to link to from the AC or membership site so that you can understand how those websites collect, use and share your information. NAASC is not responsible for the privacy statements or other content on websites outside of the AC and AC-related sites, such as the membership or AC Reddit sites.

Use of your Personal Information

NAASC collects and uses your personal information to operate the AC website and deliver the services you have requested, including processing your membership request. NAASC may also contact you via surveys to conduct research about your opinion of AC and NAASC-related activities, or of potential new activities that may be offered, or via newsletters on AC materials or events.

NAASC does not sell, rent or lease its customer lists to third parties.

NAASC may, from time to time, contact you on behalf of external partners about a particular offering that may be of interest to you. In those cases, your unique personally identifiable information (e-mail, name, address, telephone number) is not transferred to the third party. In addition, NAASC may share data with trusted partners to help us perform statistical analysis, send you email or postal mail, provide community support, or arrange for deliveries. All such third parties are prohibited from using your personal information except to provide these services to NAASC, and they are required to maintain the confidentiality of your information.

NAASC keeps track of the websites and pages our community visits within AC, in order to determine what NAASC and AC components are the most popular. This data is used to deliver customized content and advertising within NAASC to customers whose behavior indicates that they are interested in a particular subject area.

NAASC websites will disclose your personal information, without notice, only if required to do so by law or in the good faith belief that such action is necessary to: (a) conform to the edicts of the law or comply with legal process served on NAASC or the site; (b) protect and defend the rights or property of NAASC; and, (c) act under exigent circumstances to protect the personal safety of users of the AC site, or the public.
